Best Garden Decor Ideas – Effective Displays in the Conservatory or Greenhouse

Owning a conservatory or greenhouse provides an excellent opportunity for coming up with some of the best garden decor ideas when it comes to plant displays. Somehow, potted plants simply stood on the staging without much thought do not look right in the relatively grand surroundings of a conservatory or imaginative greenhouse – a much better effect is achieved if they are grouped together, and especially if they contrast in color, shape and texture. Remember that all plants in a group should require the same conditions such as temperature and light. Tiered staging allows the creating of impressive and professional looking plant displays, especially with the use of wonderful trailing plants. But using staging is not the only way of displaying potted plants. Groups can be created on the floor too, such as matching ones either side of the conservatory or interior door, or semi-circular groups in the corners. Many plants can be used effectively to achieve fantastic results. In the conservatories and greenhouses of many private and public gardens you will find that seasonal plant groups are popular. Why not reflect the different seasons in your conservatory with appropriate pot plants? The cool conservatory in spring could feature beautiful camellias. Surround these with pots of spring bulbs like narcissus and hyacinths, and pots of the greenhouse primulas P. malacoides or P. obconica. For summer color try bold groups of regal pelargoniums, with a foil of Chlorophytum comosum, the ubiquitous but useful spider plant with green and white striped grassy foliage. Autumn could bring bold groups of charm chrysanthemums, which do not really need any other plants with them. Busch fuchsias, with standards to give height, make impressive groups for summer-long color. Foliage plants create an excellent foil, such as the variegated abutilons A. hybridum and A. striatum. The plumose group is a favorite display plant, its brilliant feathery flower heads produced over a long period in summer and autumn contrasting beautifully with “cool” ferns such as Pteris tremula and Asplenium bulbiferum. Try to group permanent plants together as attractively as possible, using flowering and foliage kinds. This is quite easily achieved whether plants are inpots or soil beds. When thinking of beautiful plant displays do not concentrate just on the garden, patio or outdoor areas. Your conservatory and greenhouse are as important and should always be considered part of your garden decor in terms of color, style, form and shape.
